Commercial wheelie bin sizes
Most businesses use wheelie bins of various sizes to separate and store the waste they produce daily. You can use wheelie bins for general waste and food waste, as well as recyclable rubbish such as cardboard, paper, glass, plastic, and dry mixed recycling. Two and four-wheel bins are available in different sizes.
Any sized wheelie bin can be used for general waste and dry mixed recycling types, both combined and as individual bins for the likes of paper or cardboard, for example. However, size restrictions apply to some waste types. You can only put food waste and glass recycling in a 120 or 240 litre wheelie bin.
If you create a lot of either you must use more 120 or 240L wheelie bins, you can’t upgrade to 360 litre wheelie bins or bigger. Discover the bin dimensions and capacities for wheelie bins:
Industrial bin sizes
Industrial-sized bins are ideal for big businesses, those that create high volumes of waste, and have enough space on site to place these huge containers. Using large containers to store lots of waste reduces how often you need your bins collected and therefore cuts your waste management costs.
There are various industrial bin sizes available that are suitable to store and dispose of solid and liquid waste materials. These are all much bigger than wheelie bins but are static containers, so appropriate space and access is required to deliver and remove these large bins.
Explore the range of industrial bin sizes available:
Roll on roll off sizes
Roll on roll off skips (RoRos) are the largest industrial bins available – the biggest ones can hold up to 440 bags of waste. There are various sizes of RoRos available, from a 15-yard roll on roll off skip (1.22m (height) x 2.4m (width) x 6.1m (length)) to the largest options – 40-yard RoRo (2.6m (height) x 2.4m (width) x 6.1m (length)).
Compactor sizes
Compactors crush various types of waste to reduce its volume so you can store more rubbish at once. They’re available in different sizes with some of the largest waste compactors measuring 2.4m (height) x 2.4m (width) x 6m (length). This holds the equivalent of 350 bags of waste, slightly smaller than the biggest RoRo.
Front end loader sizes
Front end loaders are a static type of skip ideal for storing a variety of solid waste types. There are various sizes of front end loaders (FELs) with different capacities. These range from 6-yard FELs (4,600-litre capacity – 60 bags of waste) to 10-yard FELs (7,600-litre capacity – 80 bags of waste).
Rear end loader sizes
Rear end loaders (RELs) are larger than FELs. Sizes of RELs range from an 8-yard REL (6,300-litre capacity – 80 bags of waste) to 16-yard RELs (12,600-litre capacity – 160 bags of waste).
IBC container sizes
IBC containers are some of the largest containers for storing liquid and non-solid waste. They’re available in various sizes with capacities that include 600, 800, and 1,000 litres.
Rubbish bin sizes
There are many types and sizes of rubbish bins that most businesses place close to the point of waste production. These rubbish bin sizes depend on the type of bin and what it’s used to store. Often the waste will be emptied into larger wheelie bins or big containers before it’s collected by a professional waste management company.
Explore these examples of other commercial waste bin sizes:
- Office bin sizes – this covers a variety of smaller office bins used for paper recycling, general waste, food waste, and dry mixed recycling. Small office bins are normally available in 25, 50, 70,and 90 litres.
- Sanitary waste bin sizes – every workplace bathroom must have a sanitary waste bin in place legally. Sanitary waste bins are available in different sizes to suit the space, with options including 7 to 30-litre sanitary waste bins.
- Food waste bin sizes – many commercial kitchens will place food waste bins close to the point of production. Smaller bins and containers can be used but you can only use maximum sizes of 120 and 240 litre wheelie bins to dispose of waste food.
